My name is Rukshia Sritharan and I am a UK registered dietitian! All food has nutritional value, and South Asian food is no different. My goal is to supply knowledge and provide dietetic advice to improve nutritional wellbeing in a way that is realistic and viable in the typical South Asian household.

Growing up in a Tamil household predominantly eating South Asian food, it became a passion of mine to utilise cultural recipes to create the same mouth-watering traditional meals whilst improving its nutritional quality, and I hope to

share with you the benefits of a beautifully

delicious South Asian plate!

Eating well doesn't have to mean giving up good food.

As a Tamil child growing up in the UK, healthy eating classes were centred around a predominantly western diet. Typical 'restaurant and takeout foods' including Chinese, Indian and other non-western cuisines were deemed 'fattening, MSG-loaded and unhealthy', and my food diaries could not be analysed by my school teachers as they were 'too ethnic'.

It took years to unlearn this stigma surrounding the wonderful cultural food that I had rejected time and time again, and I wish to prevent others from rejecting all the goodness that traditionally used South Asian ingredients can provide to the diet, and how to utilise these ingredients in the face of prevalent issues in the South Asian community like high cholesterol, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.
